Diego Ortiz is a biologist interested in ecological and evolutionary aspects of tropical biodiversity. He completed his studies at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador (BSc), Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazônia, Brazil (MSc), and James Cook University, Australia (PhD).

Diego has collaborated with the Galapagos Science Center and USFQ since 2020 on various research and teaching projects in the Galapagos. Currently, he leads the GSC Bioinformatics Laboratory where he executes projects with a focus on molecular biology and provides assistance to visiting researchers in bioinformatics analysis.

Diego enjoys going out into nature, wildlife observation, and music.
