A public presentation and reception will be held to announce the Galapagos Initiative being jointly developed the the Unversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Universidad San Francisco de Quito.
Tony Waldrop (UNC Vice Chancellor for Research & Economic Development), together with Santiago Gangotena, USFQ Chancellor and Carlos Montufár, USFQ President, will introduce the UNC & USFQ Galapagos Initiative and its importance to science and society as well as to education at UNC, USFQ, and around the globe. This Galapagos partnership will lead to better understanding of the complex interactions among population, health, and environment in this internationally acclaimed, protected area—a World Heritage Site “at risk.”
As part of the program, Pat Davison, Professor, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, will present “Living Galapagos,” a Carolina student-authored multi-media exploration of the people and events that are shaping the social and ecological setting of the Galapagos Islands. This journey through the “Enchanted Islands” reveals life in the Galapagos and in the footsteps of Darwin, as documented by Professor Davison and his students, who together experienced the many faces and stories of the Galapagos Islands this past summer.
A reception with refreshments will follow the public presentation.
